More details

• In the period in which it was built, the Church of St. Mark was a milestone in the town's spiritual renewal. Its location dictated the design of the main square, i.e. the backbone of the town's development at that time.
• On the right side on the entrance, there is the altar with a marble sarcophagus, in which the relics of St. Clement are kept, the patron of the town Makarska and the Diocese of Makarska.
• The altar of the Mother of God is located on the left side, and a small altar of Our Lady of the Rosary is above it. The Virgin with child painted on wood is the work of the Byzantine school. According to townspeople, that small altar was built during the plague in 1815.
• The other altar on the left side is the altar of the Holy Cross. It represents the Way of the Cross, and the wooden sculptures are life-sized.
• The main altar, the most beautiful altar in the church, is the work of the Venetian sculptor Pietro Onigho.
• The church was considerably damaged during the big earthquake in 1962, therefore its interior was changed significantly.
