Tour Labin and discover its historical side. The 16th-century main town gates devoted to St Florian, Porta Sanfior, are the pride of the people of Labin and a valuable cultural monument. More details
- Above the town gate, you’ll see one of Labin’s 5 Venetian lions and two coats of arms. The first is the coat of arms of the town of Labin, which hasn’t changed since the middle ages, while the second is the coat of arms of Francesco Grimani, the town’s podesta (magistrate) at the time the town gate was built.
- Walk into the old town centre of Labin through the main entrance of the Porta Sanfior, or the Gate of St. Flor, built in 1589, and discover why this is considered the most beautiful entrance to the town centre (as well as the shortest)!
- Immediately after the Porta Sanfior, you will find the small mediaeval Stari trg square. The building with the yellow façade, known as the Podesta’s Palace, was built in 1555 in the Renaissance style and today it houses the Municipal Court.
- Take a photo beside the Austrian cannon that has stood on Torjon tower since 1995.
- If you prefer art, you’ll love the nearby gallery of painter and sculptor Josip Diminić.
- If you’re interested in the history of the town and mining in the area, make sure to visit the Labin National Museum, located in the beautiful Battiala-Lazzarini Palace.
