It is known as a royal dessert because it was prepared as a delicacy more than 300 years ago in the rich houses of the Rab patricians. In the 19th century, it was made to order in the Benedictine monastery of St. Andrew, where the recipe is kept to this day. It was served on the occasion of the most solemn holidays. • The main ingredients of Rab cake are almonds and maraschino liqueur.
• Legend has it that in 1177 it was first served to Pope Alexander III when he visited Rab.
• It is called the queen of desserts because it requires effort, dedication and time. According to the original recipe, the preparation of the cake takes as long as 3 days.
