The Origana route is the longest and most demanding route on the island of Krk, and it is especially noteworthy as it runs through the entire municipality of Omišalj. We have chosen a route for you that leads from Omišalj towards the village of Voz, where a battle between Caesar I and Pompey took place in the year 49 before Christ. Here, the route crosses through unique karst regions on the coast, and it is bathed in the scent of spices and medicinal herbs. This route will treat you to outstanding sites of natural beauty, such as Biserujka cave near the village of Rudine, green pastures, dense forests, and a swampy area near Jezero that is also an ornithological reserve. After a short break in Njivice, the trail leads you back towards Omišalj through Cerova and Veli vrh. Ride alongside hundred-year-old oak trees to Blatna bay, near which you can visit the Mohorov archaeological site. Head towards Sepen bay and discover more island history at the ancient town of Fulfinum, then head back to Omišalj, where you can spend the rest of the day sightseeing at this protected cultural monument.

  • If you think the Origana route might be too difficult for you, you can choose from a number of different alternatives near Omišalj, like a route that leads through the peaks and valleys of the island of Krk. There are also routes easy enough for any recreational cyclist: Orhideja (15.9km) and Kadulja (22.6km).
  • The area surrounding Omišalj is full of ancient ruins. Find out everything there is to know about the 1st century Roman town of Fulfinum and a late-5th century early Christian basilica at Mirina archaeological park in Sepen bay!
  • Find cave formations like calcite straws, columns and stalactites in Biserujka cave, 300m northwest of the village of Rudine. Take a walk through its underground halls.
